Real Property, Trust and Estate Law
Each year, 10 young lawyers are chosen as RPTE Fellows.
The Fellows serve a two-year term where they attend Section leadership meetings
and work with a substantive Committee Chair who serves as a mentor and guides
them through all aspects of committee membership. Fellows also get involved in
various projects such as writing for an RPTE publication or speaking at an
event. Fellows also serve as liaisons to the young lawyer’s community and
actively participate in the work of the Section Membership Committee.
Your Gift Matters
Real property, trust and estate planning touches deeply personal aspects of people's lives, including wealth distribution, family dynamics, and cultural traditions. A more diverse group of attorneys is better equipped to understand the unique needs, values, and concerns of clients from different racial, ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds. This understanding allows for more tailored legal advice that resonates with the specific goals of each client, ensuring that their wishes are accurately reflected in estate plans.
Our Impact
RPTE Fellows are assigned to work with a substantive Committee Chair, who serve as a mentor and help expose you to all aspects of committee membership; involvement in a substantive project, which may include writing for a RPTE publication; Section liaison to the ABA Young Lawyers Division or your local bar association; active member of the Membership Committee and attend important Section leadership meetings.
“Completing the RPTE Fellowship has been an incredible experience, providing me with invaluable mentorship and connections. Throughout the fellowship, I had the privilege of engaging with RPTE members who generously offered their time, expertise, and guidance, encouraging me to step outside my comfort zone and grow professionally. I am grateful to now count many of these esteemed members as lifelong mentors and invaluable resources in my career development.” -Maria Cortes
