Commission on Law & Aging
Your Gift Matters
It is estimated that 1 in 6 people ages 60 and older experienced some form of abuse during the past year. Sadly, for every reported case of abuse against older adults, there are 24 undetected cases. Your gift will support training and resources for attorneys, judges, and consumers to better prevent and address adult abuse—including a new handbook for practitioners highlighting the various types of abuse, criminal and civil responses, and the services available to victims.
Our Impact
As we age, we deserve full participation in society, quality of life and quality of care, access to supported decision-making to ensure our voices are heard, and protection from abuse, exploitation, and unnecessary guardianships. Our advocacy and resources ensure older people retain their agency and live with the dignity and respect all of us deserve.
Last year, the Commission on Law and Aging produced and provided more than three dozen programs to over 10,000 participants on topics including less restrictive alternatives to guardianship, abuse prevention, dementia and legal ethics, representing clients with diminished capacity, and many more. Your support allows us to continue educating and advocating to protect the rights and dignity of adults as they age.
“I am a Long-Term Care Ombudsman and this was one of the best presentations I have attended that explained "capacity" as a tool I can use to assist my residents in resolution of their and others complaints!!! Thank you so much!” – ABA COLA Webinar Attendee
