Commission on Disability Rights
Established in 1973, the Commission on Disability Rights diligently
furthers the ABA's commitment to justice and the rule of law for people with
disabilities. The Commission is also dedicated
to seeking the full and equal participation of persons with a wide range of
abilities throughout the legal profession.
Your Gift Matters
Your generous gift fuels the Commission’s dual mission as it:
- Writes ABA Resolutions that advance the civil rights of all individuals with disabilities to secure their access, equity, inclusion, and participation in society
- Fosters the employment, empowerment, advancement, and inclusion of individuals with disabilities in the legal profession through its Pledge for Change and ongoing #BeCounted campaign
- Recognizes disability DEI and disability rights trailblazers through its Champions for Disability Inclusion in the Legal Profession Award and Paul G. Hearne Award for Disability Rights; and
- Provides a wide range of resources, webinars, CLEs, and publications for law students, lawyers, disability professionals and advocates, law schools, and law firms, among others.
Our Impact
"In the 50 years of its existence, the Commission on
Disability Rights has aimed to increase opportunities for, and fight
discrimination against, law students and lawyers with disabilities. In
addition, it has worked tirelessly to make sure that the ABA itself presents a
welcoming and accessible environment for these individuals. We seek to build
alliances with other organizations and individuals that share these
values.” - Robert Dinerstein, Chair of the Commission on Disability Rights
